Sotomayer

I still like Obama, but this is a major blight.

I don't like reverse racism. Sotomayer's speeches and opinions seem to suggest that she believes in it.

3 months since my last post??

Yikes. Poor neglected Royalerant.

Well, many of you know, and the rest haven't been paying attention, but my spiritual life has taken a dramatic and unexpected turn. My life will never be the same again, but at least now, it has settled down.

I fought insomnia night after night. I saw a psychiatrist and he prescribed me anti-anxiety medication. I have not yet filled the prescription because (1) I am sleeping again, (2) I heard that stuff makes you gain weight, and (3) aside from the sleeping problem, there was nothing wrong with me.

A stimulus package that does not stimulate

The criticism of the $750B "economic stimulus package" is largely correct. Very little of it will actually help the economy in 2009. Thus, it is misnamed. OK. So, what?

It is more of a program to bailout the states, which will prevent layoffs and to that extent, it will help the economy this year.

Other aspects of it, particularly the longterm energy restructuring, is something that is badly needed, but won't fully manifest for several years.

The condom/abortion funding that (I believe) was eventually removed was just absolutely ridiculus. That was just social engineering disguised as economic necessity.

As for the Republican criticism - hypocrisy, hypocrisy, hypocrisy. They had 8 years, tried cutting taxes, and inflated the national defecit with social engineering and fearmongering under the guise of military necessity. Moreover, the banks collapsed under their watch.

So, in other news....

I had my 3rd lifetime MRI today. I had two for my leg injury, but this time was for my left elbow.

It sucked. My head was inside the machine and it felt like I was in a jet engine.

China protesters: Stop 'cooking cats alive'
Fury after newspaper says 10,000 felines are eaten daily in single province

BEIJING - A southern Chinese province must stop the "shameful" and "cruel slaughter" of cats for food, a group of more than 40 animal lovers in Beijing said Thursday as they unfurled banners in a tearful protest.

update

MMA Tournament - it's looking highly unlikely that I will compete. I have been plagued with injuries and time problems. The latest is my elbow popped last week while grappling. It's not a serious injury, but it needs at least 2-3 weeks of rest. Given that the tournament is only 4 weeks away, that's pushing it close.

Appartment - getting close. I hope to move by February.

The election

YAY!!!!!!!!! I'm slightly happier that Obama will be President than I am that Palin will not be the next Vice President. Phew, we dodged a big bullet, as evidenced by all the lovely details coming out about Palin.

Anyway, a few thoughts on it all:

1. I voted for Obama. Duh. Not that I agree with everything he says, but that I believe in his vision of America.

2. A number of things really annoyed me:
  • Palin/McCain's crap about "Real America".
  • Idiots who think Obama is a socialist, Muslim, or will actually pass the Pro-Choice Act on day 1.
  • Idiots who think a progressive tax schedule redistributes wealth anymore than a separate corporate income tax schedule from the individual one. If corporations pay less taxes than individuals, than we're redistributing wealth from individuals to corporations. This actually came up on in the election, particularly with the "Obama is a socialist" crowd.
